The fact that our education system is failing us does not come as a
shock to anyone, or it shouldn't. Funding is tied to test scores, so
curriculum becomes focused on test preparation. We are setting up to graduate a
generation of people who can pass a series of standardized tests but
they won't be able to think, problem solve, write a paragraph or
innovate, so what are we producing?
While they are a few shining stars in both private and public education who seem able to focus on long term outcomes, they are the exception and it is a sad thought of the millions of children who will enter our school system.
As a parent, I feel cheated. I have paid into the tax system that funds these schools and happily, because education is our greatest resource. And now that I have a child ready to enter the system, and I am looking high and low for alternatives. The education saga continues...
