As Cubes&Crayons coworking moves this week to Mountain View in the heart of Silicon Valley, I thought I would take a quick moment to start orienting our members and future members to the fun places all within a mile of the Mountain View Cubes&Crayons. There are parks, restaurants, cafes, bookstores and more all within a short distance. Below are just some of our favorites in each category. We look forward to the members' feedback as we grow the list:
1. Best Cafe for Coffee, pastries and sandwiches: Dana Street roasting company
This quirky little cafe has the best coffee and lovely pastries and is great for a sandwich or salad midday. They also do after hours bands typically on Thursday and Friday evenings. The quirky but friendly staff are great. Grab your double latte (and no, you don't have to say tall, grande or any other random size) and bring it with you as you settle down at work at Cubes&Crayons.
2. Best Mexican food: Los Charros
Great hole in the wall Mexican food at even better prices. Fabulous burritoes. A must try.
3. Best nearby park: Mercy-Bush
Although there are a couple of parks within walking distance, we highly recommend Mercy-Bush at the end of the day to get some energy out with the little ones. Bright, fresh, and clean this park has playstructure, sand, grass, and swings all while being small and safe feeling. Great for the 5 and under set.
4. Dinner out for Date night: Restaurants on Castro Street
There are lots of restaurants in every cuisine on Castro Street, just 1 mile away from Cubes&Crayons coworking. Depending on your personal taste, we are happy to give you recommendations. Some of my personal favorites include Vaso Azzuro(Continental), Zucca (try a champagne cocktail or martini), Amarin Thai (best Thai in the Bay Area), and Shiva's (Great Indian food; make sure to order the Mango Lsai). Also popular are Zono Sushi, Cascal's, and the Cantankerous Fish.
5. Catching up on some reading: Books, Inc.
While we have a great selection of books in the Cubes&Crayons library to check out while you are there, if you want a bookstore with great atmosphere and well selected books, make sure to go to Books, Inc. on the corner of Castro and Dana Street. Great kids book selection and reading room to have your own story time with your child. Watch for the book we feature at Cubes&Crayons each month and enjoy additional discounts at Books inc. And while you are there, walk down a door to BookBuyers for a large selection of used books in every genre imaginable.
